Ty and Dan talk with Paul Myerberg from USA Today about Alabama’s dominance, Georgia’s glass ceiling, the evolution of LSU, realistic expectations for Texas A&M, the impact of Mississippi’s recruiting class and much much more.
Show SummaryTy and Dan talk to Paul Myerberg from USA today, running down all 14 SEC teams and examining some of the story lines going into spring practice. Myerberg starts off saying the gap between the SEC and the rest of the BCS conferences is growing smaller, but ultimately the South East is still a notch above the rest.
The guys then start bouncing around the league, starting off with the Georgia Bulldogs’ ceiling, one problem that could derail the Tide’s dominance, LSU’s tall task of trying to replace trying to replace 11 guys, the amount of time Mark Stoops will need at Kentucky to move the program up in the standings, and Myerberg dishes some sobering news to Tennessee fans.
Next Ty, Dan and Myerberg discuss how Texas A&M needs to win a few more games in convincing fashion before it’s considered a top five squad, who will have a bigger immediate impact between Gus Malzahn at Auburn and Bret Bielema at Arkansas, how helpful Hugh Freeze’s recruiting class at Ole Miss will be in his first season, and the crazy notion of Jadeveon Clowney sitting out for a year at South Carolina before jumping to the NFL.
They look at Florida’s offense and how it could be the piece that holds the Gators back from being title contenders, Mississippi State’s inability to break through and win big games, the urgency needed at Mizzou to avoid basement-dweller status, and Vanderbilt’s next step in James Franklin’s continued ascension.
Before Myerberg heads out, he touches on a few of the prominent story lines as spring ball approaches, such as how Tennessee is taking to Butch Jones and if A&M can handle its big recruiting haul.
The guys close out the show talking about what they’ll be watching during spring practice in the SEC, Dan explains the Harlem Shake to Ty, and Ty tells the listeners how he wiped out in a puddle of mud and landed on his dislocated shoulder.
Oh! And Dan complains about the weather!
