Jeffrey R. Stout, Ph.D., FISSN is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of the Metabolic and Body Composition Laboratory in the Department of Health and Exercise Science. He received a undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Concordia University in 1989 and a masters and doctorate in Exercise Physiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1992 and 1995, respectively. In addition, Dr. Stout is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM), Fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS). Dr. Stout has conducted and published numerous studies that focus on nutritional intervention on exercise performance, muscle function and body composition in journals such as Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise. Furthermore, he has edited and co-authored six books on sports nutrition.
Ben Rosenblatt, graduated in Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff where he is currently undertaking a Ph.D. in the biomechanical specificty of the power clean to sprinting. Previously he was a voluntary strength and conditioning assistant at Long Beach State University and the Rehabilitation Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Olympic Medical Institue. Now in his second season as Head of Sports Science and Conditioning at Birmingham City Football Club, he has been promoted to the Premier League Campaign to Manchester United.

Cassandra Forsythe, PhD, CSCS, CISSN is a graduate of Exercise Science and Nutrition from the #1 Kinesiology doctoral program in the U.S at the University of Connecticut (2009). Her research specialty is low-carbohydrate ketogenic diets, dietary fatty acids, resistance training, and their relationships to diabetes, heart disease and body composition. She also holds a M.S. in Human Nutrition and Metabolism and a B.S. in Nutrition and Food Science from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. With her certification as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and a Certified Sports Nutritionist (CISSN), Cassandra coaches women of all ages and sports at her personal training studio in Connecticut, or online, to attain their athletic and body composition goals. She also is a well-known author. She has authored two popular books for women: “The New Rules of Lifting for Women”, co-authored with Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove (2008), and “Women’s Health Perfect Body Diet” (2008); in addition to two textbook chapters: “Creatine Metabolism”, from Essentials of Creatine in Sport (2007), and “Very Low-Carbohydrate Diets” , from Essentials of Sports Nutrition (2008), and numerous online and peer-reviewed nutrition and exercise articles. Currently she is working on her dietetic internship through the University of Massachusetts Amherst to become a Registered Dietitian by July 2009. In her spare time, Cassandra loves to mountain bike, rock climb, hike, lift weights, cook, garden, and walk with her three dogs.
Mike “Vinny” Varrato, MS, CSCS is currently a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Tenafly Racquet Club in Tenafly, NJ just outside New York City. Mike works in an elite tennis player program called CourtSense where he trains players from children to professionals. Mike previously started his career for the Philadelphia Phillies and their Double A affiliate Reading Phillies. Mike received a Master’s degree from Florida Atlantic University in December 2006 and is a former roommate of co-host Anna Lepeley (His biggest claim to fame). Mike has worked and interned for/under Florida Gulf Coast University, Perfect Competition, David Sandler/Strengthpro, Florida International University, Providence Bruins, Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, and various football, hockey, and tennis camps.
Disa L. Hatfield, Ph.D., M.A., is currently an assistant professor at the University of Rhode Island in the Department of Kinesiology. Dr. Hatfield earned her first Master’s degree in psychology at Antioch University, Santa Barbara and her second in Kinesiology from the University of Connecticut and her Ph.D. from the University if Connecticut. Dr. Hatfield’s research interests include the hormonal responses to resistance exercise, particularly the responses of Insulin-Like Growth Factor I and Growth Hormone. Dr. Hatfield also has research experience investigating the role of supplementation and resistance exercise, children and exercise, and the weight-loss and health benefits of differing diets in combination with resistance training. She is also a 3-time National Champion Powerlifter and former American Bench Press record holder. She is an active participant of the ACSM and NSCA.
Mike Irr, CSCS, is the Strength and Conditioning Coach of the NBA team, Charlotte Bobcats. He previously served as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Chicago Bulls. He earned his degree from the University of Connecticut and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
Erik Helland, is the Bulls’ Strength & Conditioning Coach and one of the NBA’s most respected and tenured strength coaches. He is a 1987 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he earned his degree in Physical Education with an emphasis on athletic training and coaching. Erik is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a strength and conditioning specialist and USA Weightlifting as a Level I coach.

Jason Hartman, MS, CSCS, is currently the Strength & Conditioning Coordinator at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, New York. His duties include overseeing the resistance training and conditioning programs for the resident programs of the Lake Placid Olympic Training Center which include: Bobsled, Skeleton, Biathlon, Freestyle Skiing, and Luge.




Dr. Joseph Dziados, M.D., MPH completed his medical degree at Creighton University in Omaha, NE in 1977. He is residency-trained and board-certified in Family Practice, Public Health and Preventive Medicine, and holds a Certificate of Additional Qualification in Sports Medicine.
