Dan’s Take Podcast 7/31

Posted by Dan McGowan On July - 31 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

On this week’s show I tell you why New Engladers’ arrogance got in the way of seeing David Ortiz for what he truly was.  That plus why I feel like the majority of players using steroids become some addicted that they actually convince themselves they’re not doing anything wrong.  Also, I tell you who makes out best from the David Ortiz story.  Of course, I had to cover the Cliff Lee trade and what is does for the Phillies and why I think we all need to stop overvaluing prospects.  Finally I close the show with some thoughts on Brett Favre and why I give him a pass for changing his mind so much.

Episode 176 – Perfection, Convictions, Retirements and the T.O. Show with The Girls!

Posted by tpsradio On July - 30 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

Today The Girls are coming to you live from our happy place, a rare thing
with the world of sport in recent days. We’re perched on the brim of Mark
Buehrle’s hat watching batter after batter get nervous like a girl at her
first dance as Mr. Perfect winds up and shuts ‘em down. He couldn’t have
done it without DeWayne Wise who snatched perfection from the jaws of just
another great outing with a killer over-the-wall grab. Yes, it’s a team
sport and a Mark needed his little buddy, DeWayne. (Somebody dial Alberto
Contador into this concept, please.) From happy joy we get into the
‘business’ of sport. Did Roger Goodell kick Vick while he was down with his
Tony Dungy-mentored reintroduction program? Will anyone sign him? And if
the answer is yes, have they taken the time to look back at his last three
years behind center? Sure, he’s a Pro Bowl (AKA popular) QB, but in his six
years in the league he’s thrown 71 TDs and 52 INTs in 74 games. You can do
the math. Not fabulous. Factor in some serious downtime and you’ve got
yourself a real project. Is Belichick the man for the task? Only if Roger
Goodell says so. Perhaps that whole Spygate thingy gave Roger a card to use
when he so desires. A bad-guy-gone-good story is perfect for the NFL right
about now.So grab your sunscreen, a Fan’s Guide to Good Behavior
manual, and your best footie PJs…it’s time to talk sports with The Girls!

EaglesFanCast Ep. 57 – RIP Jim Johnson

Posted by EaglesFanCast On July - 28 - 2009 ADD COMMENTS

We’ve taken a few months off, and it was a slow Eagles news time anyway, but we are back.

Unfortunately, we record this episode with heavy hearts, as long-time Eagles Defensive Coordinator, Jim Johnson, passed away today.  He had been battling cancer for a while, and was 68.  We will never forget what he did for the players, coaches and fans of this organization, and we wish his family all the best during this very hard time.

The Philadelphia Eagles website has an amazing tribute to the best Defensive Coordinator the organization, and perhaps the NFL, has ever had.

What we talked about:

  • We remember Jim Johnson, who passed away today.
  • Sean McDermott, the new Eagles Defensive Coordinator named last week, is young and has to gain the respect of the players
  • WR Jeremy Maclin has not signed yet, but there are no worries
  • Training Camp talk: Brian Westbrook looks great, Stacy Andrews is a monster, Shawn Andrews looks like his old self, and Donovan McNabb is having fun
  • Eagles Flight Night is this Sunday – Chuck and Eric will be going, so say hi
  • We talk a little Phillies… we can’t help it, it’s a Philly thing
  • Email from Phil – he has the same thing most Eagles fans are feeling right now: is excited, but has reservations

One last thing, web aficionado and all-around good guy, Drew Olanoff, was diagnosed with cancer a few months ago. Not one to sit back and do nothing, he turned his passion for life and the web on the cancer itself. If you are on twitter, chances are you have seen people blame Drew’s cancer  for many things in their own lives.  Drew’s created the “Blame Drew’s Cancer” movement where  he has partnered with Livestrong, and hopes to get sponsors to donate a dollar for every time someone blames Drew’s cancer for something.  If you’re on twitter, go ahead.

We’re back, so too should you be:
