Buffalo Beat Podcast: #008 7-22-07

The show was taped live on Sunday 7-22-07 at 10 pm which is a little bit of a break from the norm. The audio issues are almost on the back burner and we can start having some real sports talk. There was both Sabres and Bills news to talk about.

Bills

  • Training camp starts on Thursday- of all the position battles I think the right cornerback battle will be the best.
  • Will the Bills be able to sign Marshawn Lynch and Paul Posluszny before camp starts?
  • A string of sellouts for the Bills
  • AFC East Preview

Sabres

  • Daniel Paille agreed to his qualifying offer… where will he fit in?
  • Derek Roy and Nathan Paetsch have arbitration hearings coming up… what will happen?
  • A Rumor flying around that the Sabres offered Roy a five year $25 million contract
  • Will the Sabres go after anymore free agents? who is available?

Erik HellandErik Helland is the Chicago Bulls Strength & Conditioning Coach; Entering his 21st season with the Bulls, Helland is one of the NBA’s most respected and tenured strength coaches … he is a 1987 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where he earned his degree in Physical Education with an emphasis on athletic training and coaching … certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a strength and conditioning specialist and USA Weightlifting as a Level I coach … he has previously coached at Elk Mound (Wis.) High School and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire … Erik has consulted with numerous college and professional strength and conditioning programs and has worked extensively with athletes from the NFL and European Basketball Leagues, as well as professional, collegiate and high school athletes from nearly every sport … Erik and his wife, Michele, have two sons, Gunnar, 11, and Trevar, 8. 

Dr FleckSteven J. Fleck, Ph.D. is chair of the sport science department at Colorado
College in Colorado Springs. He earned a PhD in exercise physiology from Ohio
State University in 1978. He has headed the physical conditioning program of the U.S. Olympic Committee; served as strength coach for the German Volleyball Association; and coached high school track, basketball, and football. Dr. Fleck is a former vice president of basic and applied research for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). He was honored in 1991 as the NSCA Sport Scientist of the Year.

Talkin Boxing 7/18/07


WOW, what a crazy show 7/18/07 truned out to be… One of the biggest boxing promoters in history, Murad Muhammad joined the show for an in depth interview. Boxing fans, do not miss this interview… It turned out to be one of the greatest in Talkin Boxing history. Also contributing to the show this week, Keith Terceira (look for keith to be taking a larger roll on the show in the coming weeks) Ryan Songalia, and Ron Lipton. Strength-Power Hour Radio show and podcast - guest interviews with Cassandra Forsythe and Bob Alejo, CSCS

Cassandra Forsythe is a PhD student at the University of Connecticut studying exercise science and nutrition under the supervision of Jeff Volek, PhD, RD. In September 2007, her first diet and weight loss book entitled “The Perfect Body Plan” written for Women’s Health Magazine, will be released. Then, in December 2007, her second book with Lou Schuler and Alwyn Cosgrove, entitled “Lift Like a Man, Look Like a Goddess” will be available on shelves. Bob AlejoBob Alejo was the conditioning coach for the Oakland Athletics for nine seasons (1993-2001) during which time the A’s were 2000 Western Division Champions and the 2001 Wild Card team.  Prior to the A’s, he was a conditioning coach at UCLA from 1984-1993, involved with 23 men’s and women’s teams. During his tenure, UCLA racked up 25 national and 14 conference championships and produced more than 50 All-Americans.  Bob is also the author of numerous training articles and contributor to several books - most recent being “Complete Conditioning for Soccer from Human Kinetics.”  Bob also has worked for U.S. Volleyball, U.S. Soccer, is a Level-I U.S. Weightlifting Federation coach and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certification Commission. Additionally, Coach Alejo is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine, the National Strength and Conditioning Association and The International Society of Sports Nutrition.
