Jeffrey Stout, Ph.D., FISSN, FNSCA, FACSM  is currently an Assistant Professor and Director of the Metabolic and Body Composition Laboratory in the Department of Health and Exercise Science. He received a undergraduate degree in Exercise Science from Concordia University in 1989 and a masters and doctorate in Exercise Physiology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1992 and 1995, respectively.  In addition, Dr. Stout is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM), Fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).  Dr. Stout has conducted and published numerous studies that focus on nutritional intervention on exercise performance, muscle function and body composition in journals such as Journal of Applied Physiology, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise.  Furthermore, he has edited and co-authored six books on sports nutrition.  Dr. Stout serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition and is a regular reviewer for journals such as Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise and Journal of Sports Science and Medicine.  He has also attended and regularly presented at each NSCA National Conference since 1993 and was recently elected to the NSCA Research Committee.  In July 2001, Dr. Stout received the Outstanding Young Investigator of the Year Award from the NSCA.  In addition, that year he also won the Editorial Excellence Award from the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. http://www.ou.edu/cas/hss/bios/stout.html 

Hector Lopez, M.D. is the co-founder of Physicians Pioneering Performance, LLC. Clinical interests include: physical medicine and rehabilitation, optimal aging, obesity, and sports/musculoskeletal medicine.  Dr. Lopez has had research experience in the molecular biology of cancer, lipoprotein and amino acid metabolism, and effects of manipulating macronutrient composition on athletic performance.  The PPP group has an interest in developing a new paradigm of rehab medicine…‘Integrative/Metabolic Physiatry’ through strategic nutritional and metabolic intervention as another “tool” in the armamentarium to enhance performance outcomes in patients, healthy laypersons, and athletes alike.  Research interests of PPP include: 1) Applying advances in sports nutrition and exercise science to enhance the functional capacity and human performance of the rehabilitation patient population, senior/aging population, athletes, and laypersons.  Dr. Lopez has experience consulting on integrated training, nutrition and supplementation for clients at all levels of fitness (recreational and amateur to elite/professional athletes).  Dr. Lopez is on the advisory board of the NBFE (National Board of Fitness Examiners), the ISSN, and MyoTred.  PPP is collaborating with MyoTrend to educate and empower consumers in performance nutrition science and safety, to bring forth supplements that have long-lasting value, and embodies a true balance between the available scientific evidence and art of innovation.

Disa L. Hatfield, M.A., M.A., is currently a doctoral fellow in the Department of Kinesiology working in the Human Performance Laboratory in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Connecticut.  Ms. Hatfield earned her first Master’s degree in psychology at Antioch University, Santa Barbara and her second in Kinesiology from the University of Connecticut.  Her research interests include the hormonal responses to resistance exercise.  Her upcoming dissertation will focus on the gender differences of the Insulin-Like Growth Factor I response to acute resistance exercise.  Ms. Hatfield also has research experience investigating the role of supplementation and resistance exercise, children and exercise, and the weight-loss and health benefits of differing diets in combination with resistance training.  She is also a 3-time drug free National Champion Powerlifter and former American Bench Press record holder.  She is an active participant of the ACSM and NSCA.     

 

Robb Rogers M.Ed., C.S.C.S., M.S.C.C. - With over 25 years of coaching experience Robb is an authority on performance training.  From club sports to professional teams, Robb has coached athletes of every level.  From the University of Missouri, Southern Cal and Baylor University to the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League, Robb has enjoyed many varied experiences. Robb is certified by the National Strength and Conditioning Association, USA Weightlifting and is a Certified Master Strength and Conditioning Coach by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association.  He has received the Training & Conditioning magazine Comeback Athlete Rehab Team award, the University of Southern California Football Spirit Award and been honored by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as the 1996 Southwest Conference Coach of the year and the 1996 National Coach of the Year.  Robb’s been published in numerous journals and magazines and is a member of the Perform Better Seminar Team.  Robb is also involved with www.sbcoachescollege.com, a free web based education site.  He has presented at national conventions, business meetings, camps, clinics and seminars since 1985 and was most recently strength coach to the 2007 Hula Bowl.  Robb’s home base is St. Vincent Sports Performance, the Midwest destination place for performance training, in Indianapolis, IN.

Dr FleckSteven J. Fleck, Ph.D. is chair of the sport science department at Colorado
College in Colorado Springs. He earned a PhD in exercise physiology from Ohio
State University in 1978. He has headed the physical conditioning program of the U.S. Olympic Committee; served as strength coach for the German Volleyball Association; and coached high school track, basketball, and football. Dr. Fleck is a former vice president of basic and applied research for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is a fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). He was honored in 1991 as the NSCA Sport Scientist of the Year.

Bob AlejoBob Alejo was the conditioning coach for the Oakland Athletics for nine seasons (1993-2001) during which time the A’s were 2000 Western Division Champions and the 2001 Wild Card team.  Prior to the A’s, he was a conditioning coach at UCLA from 1984-1993, involved with 23 men’s and women’s teams. During his tenure, UCLA racked up 25 national and 14 conference championships and produced more than 50 All-Americans.  Bob is also the author of numerous training articles and contributor to several books - most recent being “Complete Conditioning for Soccer from Human Kinetics.”  Bob also has worked for U.S. Volleyball, U.S. Soccer, is a Level-I U.S. Weightlifting Federation coach and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) Certification Commission. Lee E. Brown, EdD, CSCS*D, FNSCA, FACSM  -  Dr. Lee Brown is a Professor in the Department of Kinesiology, California State University, Fullerton;  He is author and coauthor of more than 150 professional journal articles and abstracts, editor of five books, 11 book chapters and a frequent presenter at conferences worldwide. Formerly a high school physical education teacher and coach of many sports, Brown now teaches advanced strength and conditioning courses and conducts research on high velocity exercise at California State University, Fullerton. He received his Doctorate from Florida Atlantic University and spent two years as director of the human performance laboratory at Arkansas State University. He is currently the President of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Edward A. Winslow, MS, CSCS, USAW is the Performance Coach/Internship Coordinator at Cris Carter’s FAST program.  Edward has worked in the speed, strength and conditioning field for over 8 years.  During that time he has used his education and experience helping professional, collegiate, amateur and high school athletes excel in their sport.   He received his B.S. in Exercise Physiology from Hofstra University, Long Island, NY, and completed his Masters in Science with a degree in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention from the California University of Pennsylvania.  While receiving his education at Hofstra, he was an Intern/Assistant Strength Coach for Hofstra athletics, designing and implementing programs for Football, Golf, and X-Country.  Edward continued his career at Towson University, Baltimore MD as the Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach heading the Baseball and Basketball Teams and assisting with all Towson’s 23 Division I Men and Women Teams, primarily football and Lacrosse.   He developed innovative programs that provided accurate documentation of strength, flexibility, conditioning, plyometrics, agility, speed, nutrition and exercise technique. Edward joined Cris Carter’s FAST Program in 2004 where he has trained and developed programs for many top athletes including Super Bowl Champs, NFL Draft Picks, World Champions, and Olympic Medalists.  Edward is also the Internship Coordinator at FAST, providing the opportunity for Exercise Science students to utilize their academics with practical experience.

Boyd Epley, the most decorated strength and conditioning coach ever, works for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) as Director of Coaching Performance.  Epley’s impact on the field of strength and conditioning is unquestioned. In 1969, he became the first full-time collegiate strength and conditioning coach when he was hired by Tom Osborne, then Nebraska football coach and now a U.S. Congressman, and athletic director Bob Devaney. In 1978, Epley founded the NSCA as a resource for strength coaches. His vision has grown into the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning that features 33,000 members in 56 countries worldwide, the finest research journals in the field and a number of cutting-edge educational conferences. 
Nebraska won five national championships in football during Epley’s 34-year stint as Head Strength Coach for the Huskers. Epley trained three Heisman winners, Eight Outland Award Winners and 78 All-American football players. Additionally, 64 of his assistants became strength and conditioning professionals, some in private practice and many working at such storied college programs as Notre Dame, Oklahoma,
Florida State, Ohio State, and UCLA.  In 1993 Epley was given the first-ever NSCA Lifetime Achievement Award. That same year he was honored by the Nebraska Football Hall of Fame with the Lyell Bremser Merit Award. Most recently, Epley was recognized by the All-American Football Foundation for his career contributions to the sport. Epley is a member of the U.S.A. Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame and was honored on the March 2001 cover of American Football Monthly magazine, which tabbed him as the Godfather of Strength and Conditioning. Lindy’s magazine also recognized Epley as one of its Top 100 Most Important College Football Sports Figures of the Century. Epley is married to the former Jane Lilyhorn of Holdrege, Neb., and they have a son, Jay Robert, and a daughter, Jenna Shea. 

John Berardi, Ph.D.  has earned a doctoral degree from the University of Western Ontario (2005) with a specialization in the area of exercise biology and nutrient biochemistry. Prior to his doctoral studies, Dr. Berardi studied Exercise Science at Eastern Michigan University (Masters program; 1999) as well as Health Science, Psychology, and Philosophy at Lock
Haven University (Undergraduate program; 1997).  Throughout, Dr. Berardi’s research has focused on the interaction between nutrition, sports supplementation, and exercise performance. This research has led to the publication of 8 scientific abstracts, 12 scientific papers and textbook chapters, and over a dozen presentations at scientific meetings. Further, Dr. Berardi has taught college courses in Strength Training, Exercise Science, Laboratory Techniques in Exercise Science, Nutrient Metabolism, Fitness and Wellness, and Exercise Nutrition.

Jon Torine is in his 10th season as strength and conditioning coach of the Colts.  Torine oversees all aspects of the club’s strength, conditioning and nutritional programs.  He previously served as a conditioning assistant with the Buffalo Bills from 1995-97, where he was involved with the same aspects of the Bills’ programs. In his position with the Colts, Torine has the primary responsibility of developing a year-round strength and conditioning routine for all players.  Torine supervises players’ diet/nutritional needs throughout the year, and he coordinates all meal plans for home and away games.  He also assists the team’s medical staff with the rehabilitation of injured players.  Torine has served on panels for the United States Olympic Committee, the American College of Sports Medicine, Gatorade/Gatorade Sports Science Institute and Sports Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionists (SCAN).  Torine has served as a speaker for the National Strength and Conditioning Association.  Center.  Torine played football at Springfield Mass. College.  He received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science.  Torine is a native of Livingston, N.J.  He and his wife, Ilana, reside with their sons, Spencer and Isaac, in
Carmel. 

Mark D. Stephenson, CSCS,*D, ATC is the Director of the NSCA’s Human Performance Center. He received his bachelors’ degree in Exercise Science with an emphasis in Athletic Training from Rhode Island College and His Master’s in Health Science from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions. He is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) with the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA). Mark has over 17 years experience working with elite, professional, Olympic, collegiate, and high school athletes.  Coach Stephenson currently works with members of the Colorado Springs Police Tactical Enforcement Unit, Colorado Springs Police Canine Unit, US Army Special Forces 2nd Battalion, 10th Group out of Ft. Carson.  Coach Stephenson is currently a Doctoral candidate at RMUHP working towards his Doctorate of Science in Athletic Training. His area of research focuses on metabolic training.

Mike Clark -  Head Strength & Conditioning Seahawks Experience: 3rd Year NFL Experience: 3rd Year; Named to his current position on January 22, 2004, Mike Clark joined the Seahawks in his first stint in the National Football League after 24 years of service coaching collegiate athletes in strength, conditioning and nutrition.  Clark came to Seattle from Texas A&M, where he spent 14 seasons as the head strength and conditioning coach, adding the title of assistant athletic director in 2000. During his tenure with the Aggies, Clark helped develop current Seahawks defensive linemen Rocky Bernard (1997-01) and Seahawks’ linebackers coach Zerick Rollins.  A 2003 inductee into the USA Strength and Conditioning Coaches Hall of Fame, Clark was twice named Strength Coach of the Year in 1993 and 2000. Also in 2000, he was the president of the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association.  During Seattle’s Super Bowl XL run in 2005, his regimen earned the “Colonel” American Football Monthly’s NFL Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year award.  Before joining the Texas A&M coaching staff, he was head strength and conditioning coach at Southern California (1988-89), Oregon (1983-87), Kansas (1982), and Wyoming (1981). After two years as a graduate assistant at Kansas (1977-78), Clark coached linebackers and served as defensive coordinator at Topeka (Kansas) High School (1979-80).  A graduate of Ottawa University where he played center, Clark earned his B.S. in Physical Education and minored in Biology in 1977.  Born August 22, 1954 in Wichita, Kansas, Mike and his wife, Kris, have three children, Matthew, J.J. and Alicia.

Tom Myslinski - Strength & Conditioning Coach; Year with Browns: 2nd (1st as Strength and Conditioning Coach); Year in NFL: 2nd;  Tom Myslinski was named strength and conditioning coach on Jan. 29, 2007.  Myslinski is in his first season as head strength and conditioning coach and brings nearly ten years of experience to the Browns strength and conditioning program.  Myslinski joins the Browns from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was recently appointed assistant strength and conditioning coach.  Myslinski served the previous two seasons (2005-06) at Robert Morris University in a newly created position of head strength and conditioning coach responsible for developing and initiating the conditioning program for all 17 intercollegiate male and female varsity sports. Myslinski served three seasons with the Browns under former strength and conditioning coach Buddy Morris.  Myslinski was a part-time assistant strength and conditioning coach in 2002 and 2003 seasons.  He was elevated to assistant strength and conditioning coach for the 2004 season.  While playing in the NFL, Myslinski served as a volunteer assistant strength and conditioning coach at the University of Pittsburgh from 1998-2001, where he worked primarily with offensive and defensive linemen. Prior to his stint at Pittsburgh, Myslinski spent 1996 as the volunteer head strength and conditioning coach at the University of North Florida, where he managed all aspects of physical and mental development with the school’s student athletes. He has also served as a martial arts consultant to numerous collegiate athletic programs.  Myslinski developed and patented the “Tunch Punch Ladder” hand agility pad and has trained extensively under offensive line guru, Tunch Ilkin, who is the developer of the Tunch Punch system, which is used extensively by offensive line coaches throughout the NFL.  Mylinski was a fourth round draft selection in 1992 by the Dallas Cowboys, and played offensive line for nine seasons in the NFL for the Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers.
