Patrick Jacobs, Ph.D. earned his doctorate at the University of Miami. He is currently on faculty with the Department of Exercise Science and Health Promotion at Florida Atlantic University. Patrick is a Licensed Athletic Trainer (State of Florida). He has recently done research on vibration training and the history of the hand-held model that has proliferated in many urban retail centers. Patrick’s writing has been featured in numerous publications including the Journal of Neural Engineering, American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and more.

Chris Lieto is a three-time Ironman Champion and former U.S. National Ironman Champion. With an impressive 2007 season including a 6th place finish at the Ironman World Championships, Chris is on tap for an even better 2008 season. For the past several years he has been involved with a non-profit organization called World Vision which helps children in need all across the world as well as a new project called “The Green Athlete.” Most recently Chris has launched a successful new company called Base Performance Nutrition, providing premiere nutritional supplement for endurance athletes. Andy Haman began pursuing his boyhood dream of becoming an IFBB PRO Bodybuider after retiring from teaching in the Public School system for over 15 years. He worked for a year and half every day for five hours per day and dieted for almost two years in preparation for his return to competition. Andy Haman earned his IFBB Pro Card at age 41 after winning the Super Heavyweight Class Championship and was named the Overall Show Champion at the MastersNationals in July of 2007. Andy can bench press 615 lbs, barbell curl 225 lbs 10 times and perform decline sit-ups with a 150 lb dumbbell for 15 reps. Abbe Dorn grew up in Denver, CO and attended Arapahoe High school where she was on the varsity soccer and cheerleading team. In college at the University of Northern Colorado she played soccer and received her degree in Nutrition. After college she worked at 24 Hour Fitness as a personal trainer. Her interest in figure competition lead her to Carla Sanchez and the Performance Ready Team and competition in seven shows. Abbe is currently a Denver Police officer for the city and county of Denver, and will take her athletic abilities into competition on American Gladiators on Monday, May 19.

Laurie Geisz is an NPC Figure Competitor, fitness model, writer and wife and mother to five children. After the birth of her first child Laurie exercised to lose weight gained during pregnancy, the next three births resulted in not enough time for anything except caring for the family. Her fifth child, Ben, died soon after birth, and Laurie decided to overcome her depression with a physical and emotional transformation. She hired a personal trainer and worked her way up to joining Carla Sanchez’s Performance Ready Team and at age 39 placed in two classes at the 2008 Northern Colorado Championships. She is currently training for the Masters National Figure Championships.

Julie Lohre is an accomplished IFBB Fitness & Figure Pro with over 10 years experience in the fitness industry. She is one of the most active IFBB Fitness competitors and has competed 24 times in the past four years. Julie has been featured in magazines including FLEX, Muscle & Fitness, Muscle & Fitness Hers, Ironman, Body Fitness, Body Muscle Journal and the cover of Oxygen magazine. Gary Eklund, “The Coach,” has coached high school sports for over 25 years, including basketball, baseball and girls softball. He has lived and worked in Santa Barbara, CA for 20 years. Gary’s jobs outside of coaching were in radio in sales and on-air host and promotions. He produced his own football talk show for 19 years, as well as celebrity charity events since 1983, in 10 Western States and Mexico, raising over $2,000,000 for several charities. Gary now hosts his own yearly poker tournament in Las Vegas. Gary worked out with Carla Sanchez for four months after heart surgery in 2007, and in four months lost 30 lbs, 7 inches off his waist, reduced his blood pressure from 190/90 to 112/58 and reduced his cholesterol from 230 to 132.

Rick Bloomer, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor within the Department of Health and Sport Sciences at The University of Memphis. Rick holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He held prior positions at Duke University Medical Center and Wake Forest University as a research physiologist and visiting assistant professor, respectively. His research focus is centered on oxidative stress and frequently involves the use of antioxidant therapy to decrease macromolecule oxidation. Rick has been published in Sports Medicine, International Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport and many more.

Michael Timpson brings to South Florida a premier facility with in the Velocity network of performance centers. Lori Kupferman, M.S., LDN, RD, CPT grew up on Long Island and attended Oneonta State College in upstate New York. There, she received her B.S. in Nutrition/Dietetics. After graduating from Oneonta, she attended Tufts University in Boston, MA, where she received her M.S. in Nutrition Issues and Food Policy. She next went to Tulane University in New Orleans and completed her internship to become a Registered Dietitian. Lori then went on to became a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Council on Strength and Fitness based out of Miami, FL. She has been working in the nutrition field since 1996. Barbie Guerra has surmounted incredible challenges to become a successfully Figure Competitor. When she was 2-1/2 years old in Pasadena, TX she climbed up onto an electrical transformer and grabbed some wires. Her arms were burned so badly that they had to be amputated, and she sustained scarring on her legs. Despite doctors’ odds that she would not live she not only survived but thrived. She became fascinated by fitness competition and began entering competitions. Dane Rauschenberg, a Penn State Alumnus and member of the Phi Alpha Delta fraternity, resides in Arlington, Virginia and is a member of the Washington Running Club.
