EaglesFanCast Ep. 41 - Predictability

Show Notes: Episode 41 for Tuesday, November 18, 2008

The hapless Philadelphia Eagles tie the Cincinnati Bengals on the road. We start off raging against Andy Reid, and manage to keep that same tone towards him through the whole show.  We also are amazed at McNabb’s lack of knowledge of the game’s rules, and simply cannot understand how this team with so much talent can now be in this situation with a coach who seems to have lost his ability. It’s a rough show, but as this show is by Eagles fans, what else can we do but be honest? It is about this team, and it’s hurting right now.

What we discussed:

  • Eagles tie the Cincinnati Bengals 13-13, and this is as bad as any loss
  • The team had no energy at all on Offense
  • There were 58 passing attempts, and 15 rushing attempts… when your quarterback was again struggling and eventually turned it over four times
  • A post over on Bleeding Green Nation talks stats about the unbalanced play calling in the last two weeks against the Giants and the Bengals
  • Eric talks about how Bengals cornerback Johnathan Joseph talks about how predictable the Eagles Offense has become, and he was ready for it
  • Andy Reid has become predictable and continues to show his inability to adjust
  • We have an angry email from Chris Brown railing against Reid and this Offense
  • McNabb’s comments following the game were ludicrous, especially with not knowing the rules of the game he has played for so long
  • We get a “tired” email from Aussie Mike
  • We have an email from Holden Fulco with his reaction to the Giants game, yet the same comments apply eerily to this Bengals game
  • We talk about how the Reid - McNabb team is now 4-14 in the Division since the Super Bowl (thanks to Hollis for this in the comments section from last week’s post)

Vent and rage, you’ll feel better (no guarantees):

EaglesFanCast Ep. 40 - Anything Can Happen

Show Notes: Episode 40 for Wednesday, November 12, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles lose to the New York Giants 36-31 at home.  The Lincoln Financial Field crowd was stunned after a series of missteps, predominantly from the coaching staff, cost them the game.  A lot of questions have arisen in this latest loss to yet another NFC East Division rival.  Confidence in the coaching has been lost, and the fans wonder what can change when your Executive VP of Football Operations and Head Coach are the same person.  At just over the halfway point for the season, and with the Division being so tough, hopes are already starting to wane for our playoff chances.

What we discussed:

  • We talk about the Giants game, and some of the frustrations
  • Giants ran all over the Eagles, and we couldn’t stop them
  • The Eagles running was flacid, and it appears that Brian Westbrook is not 100%
  • Donovan McNabb was tired at the end of the game, and we wonder how this can still be happening
  • Andy Reid cost them this game; his play-calling, lack of adjustment, and what we feel may be stubbornness, has now made this team mediocre
  • Caffination” (Paul) on twitter made a great comment that he wants a “Gruden factor”, meaning Dungy built the team and Gruden won the Super Bowl
  • We find it hard to find a positive from the game, other than Chris Gocong’s huge hit on Brandon Jacobs
  • A poll on Bleeding Green Nation shows that Andy Reid’s approval rating is 19%
  • Playoff-wise, this team is in a very deep hole now… losing three Division games
  • We go over the remaining schedule for the Eagles, Giants, and Cowboys, and look at a few other NFC teams
  • DirecTV is searching for the ultimate displaced fan.  The winner goes to Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa. Most of our out-of-town listeners (sorry, AussieMike) are eligible for the contest, and we want one of you to win it!  It ends November 30th.

EaglesFanCast Ep. 39 - Big Week

Show Notes: Episode 39 for Wednesday, November 5, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles get off to a slow start against the Seattle Seahawks this week, but regroup in a huge way ultimately defeating the Seahawks 26-7.  McNabb struggled early then went on a 20 for 21 streak and ultimately wound up with 349 passing yards and two TD’s.  Those went to returning Receiver Reggie Brown and Offensive Lineman Todd Herremans (WHAT!?).  The Eagles Defense also stifled the hapless Seahawks Offense after the 1st Quarter, 90-yard play and made them punt eleven times.  This coming week the Eagles welcome the New York Giants to town for a Sunday night NFC East street fight at a very unwelcoming Lincoln Financial Field.

What we discussed:

  • The Philadelphia Phillies win the World Series, and throw the biggest parade in the city’s history.
  • Chuck and Eric went to the Phillies parade and talk about their experiences
  • Donovan McNabb was horrible in the first quarter of the game
  • Andy Reid refused, again, to deviate from hist scripted plays, and thus didn’t help McNabb’s rusty play by running the ball early
  • Brent Celek has a breakout game because L.J. Smith was out hurt. Smith has been named the starter for the Giants game
  • Trick play to Todd Herremans for a receiving touchdown
  • David Akers hit four field goals to finish out the scoring in the third and fourth quarters, and it definitely looked like Akers regained his confidence
  • We have an email from Aussie Mike
  • The New York Giants come to Philly Sunday night
  • The fans have to be loud for this game
  • The Offense has to be fast, because the Giants will do everything to get to McNabb. Discipline in play and coaching is needed
  • Lito Sheppard did not practice today (Wednesday), so he is most likely out for the Giants game
  • After the Phillies championship, we think the Philadelphia fans will expect even more from the Eagles

EaglesFanCast Ep. 38 - The Westbrook Theorem

Show Notes: Episode 38 for Tuesday, October 28, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles defeat the Atlanta Falcons in Philadelphia, 27-14. The team welcomes back Brian Westbrook and Kevin Curtis from injuries, with this being Curtis’s first game of the season.  With this back to back win, the Eagles are now 4-3 on the season, and also 10-0 after a BYE week under Head Coach Andy Reid.

What we discussed:

  • Is Philly cursed? We start off talking about the Philadelphia Phillies in the World Series, and how Game 5 is suspended because of two days of bad weather
  • Donovan McNabb’s play early was bad, but he relaxed and excelled the rest of the game
  • Brian Westbrook was a rushing machine, and had 22 rushes. We talk about the stat that says when he touches the ball over 20 times, the Eagles don’t lose
  • Jagged play by the Offense. Was it rust by players coming off injuries, or the play calling?
  • The Eagles are 4-3 on the season, but we’re still not satisfied
  • The game Referees were horrendous yet again, and it seems to be the case this whole season
  • Lito Sheppard stepped up this game, and made his presence known in a few ways
  • The Eagles travel to Seattle this Sunday to take on the troubled Seahawks
  • L.J. Smith was almost killed by Lawyer Malloy
  • Reggie Brown was out again this week, despite practicing during the week

EaglesFanCast Ep. 36 - Back In It

Show Notes: Episode 36 for Tuesday, October 14, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the San Francisco 49ers in a 4th Quarter Defensive victory on Sunday at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.  Despite the Eagles moving the football effectively for three quarters, there was never a time when the game was well in hand.  A blocked field goal returned for a TD left the Eagles with a 1-point lead going into the half, and the Eagles struggled for the entire third Quarter before dominating and putting it away late in the fourth.  With the Eagles win, and losses by the Giants, Cowboys and Redskins, the Eagles are back in the race as they go into their BYE week.

What we discussed:

  • The Philadelphia Eagles beat the San Francisco 49ers 40-26 a must-win Away game
  • We debate the play of the team and coaches during the game and try to make some sense of how effective the team handled their opponent
  • The Eagles signed LB Tracy White and cut RB Tony Hunt
  • The Detroit Lions traded WR Roy Williams to the Dallas Cowboys
  • Cowboys CB Adam “Pacman” Jones was suspended four games, possibly indefinitely, after his latest off the field shenanigans… the world feigns surprise
  • We talk about Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones and his comments on ESPN about the “aging” Terrell Owens… and the world snickers knowingly
  • The Cowboys have lost five players since Sunday, including their QB, Tony Romo
  • NFC East Division outlook and standings
  • Todd talks about attending the Phillies - Dodgers NLCS Game 4 in L.A.
  • Andy Reid’s 3rd & Long playcalling scares us because he has no plan
  • We have an email from Aussie Mike
  • The site, OneCrazyFan.com is now embedding our shows on his tailgate recap pages, very cool!

Next week on our BYE week show, we welcome back Jason from Bleeding Green Nation. Jason joined us in the BYE week last year, and we’re very happy to have him back on to share his thoughts on all things Eagles.

EaglesFanCast Ep. 35 - Time For Change

Show Notes: Episode 35 for Thursday, October 7, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles self-destructed in another game they should have won.  This past Sunday, the Eagles lost at home to the Washington Redskins after opening up a 14-0 lead.  Now the team is 2-3, lost two games in the division and three games in the conference.  We address the loss with a lot of expected frustration and anger, and hope this team, and the coaches, can make the changes necessary to put the Eagles back on top where they should be.

What we discussed:

  • The Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Redskins 23-17 at The Linc
  • The first Offensive drive and the punt return were amazing, but that’s where the fun ended
  • Brian Westbrook fractured two ribs, and is now considered day-to-day
  • Andy Reid’s lack of adjustments cost them this game
  • The Redskins adjusted constantly and were able to counter everything the Eagles tried
  • Akers misses another field goal
  • Zorn outcoached Reid
  • NFC East Division outlook
  • The Eagles go to San Francisco to play the 49ers in a game we must win
  • We have a voicemail from IconJohn
  • We switch gears and talk about the Phillies for a bit

EaglesFanCast Ep. 34 - Goal Line

Show Notes: Episode 34 for Thursday, October 2, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles traveled to Chicago to take on the Bears and lose a heartbreaker 24-20. With a number of key players still out with injuries and way too many mistakes by players and coaches, the Eagles fall short. We talk about this game, some injury updates and look forward to the Washington Redskins coming to town this Sunday.

What we discussed:

  • The Philadelphia Eagles fall to the Chicago Bears 24-20.
  • Many mistakes added up to this loss, and we detail some of them

  • Lito Sheppard’s name isn’t spoken that often during the games
  • Email from Aussie Mike

  • Washington Redskins come to Lincoln Financial Field here in Philly this week for a 1:00 game
  • Going to be a tough game for the Eagles, but a tougher game for the Redskins playing their second very hard game on the road, and maybe experiencing a letdown after beating the Cowboys

EaglesFanCast Ep. 33 - Bring the Heat, Jimmy!

Show Notes: Episode 33 for Tuesday, September 23, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles took on the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field and smother the Steeler Offense for a 15-6 victory. The Eagles Defense was the side to step up big this game, swarming the confused Steeler quarterbacks and getting nine sacks in the process. Our Eagles are now 2-1 and are playing at a very high level as they travel up to the Windy City to take on the Chicago Bears this coming Sunday for a prime time game. We are really enjoying what we’re seeing at this point from this team.

What we discussed:

  • Thanks to all of our new listeners to the podcast and followers on twitter… Welcome!
  • The Eagles of Philadelphia beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in Philly, 15-6
  • Brian Dawkins did NOT look old and slow, looking more like Superman with something to prove
  • Eagles Defense, looking amazing, swarmed Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger, sacking him eight times and backup QB Byron Leftwich one time
  • Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb suffered injuries during the game, with McNabb returning and Westbrook not
  • We have a voicemail from Eric in Lansdale, PA
  • Asante Samuel had a great interception, his second of the season, and looks to be fitting his role quite nicely here in Philadelphia
  • We talk about the NFC East Division, and the Giants, Cowboys and Redskins
  • Tailgate talk and some of the shenanigans that ensued
  • We have some Chicago Bears talk, and try to put our fingers on how the Eagles approach the game

EaglesFanCast Ep. 32 - Respect Your Elders

Show Notes: Episode 32 for Wednesday, September 17, 2008

The Philadelphia Eagles lose a heartbreaker in Irving Texas to the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football. In one of the best NFL games I’ve ever watched, critical mistakes cost the Eagles the game, and they fall 41-37. In this show we try to put perspective on the game, how early in the season it is, what went wrong, and what can be done to fix things. Despite the loss, we recognize that the Eagles are truly one of the best teams in the NFL this season, and it will be a fun ride to the end.

What we discussed:

  • Philadelphia Eagles lose to the Dallas Cowboys, 41-37
  • We address Donovan McNabb’s fumbled handoff to Brian Westbrook and his inability to run the 2-minute Offense
  • Sean Considine got burned badly in the Terrell Owens TD reception
  • Brian Dawkins looked old and slow and definitely not on his game, and it’s both sad and worrisome
  • Three teams from the NFC East are in the Top 5 for the ESPN NFL Power Rankings
  • We talk about coaching on both sides of the ball
  • We have an email from Jason who talks about how he feels the day after the loss
  • The Eagles play the Pittsburgh Steelers at Lincoln Financial Field this coming Sunday
  • One of the things the Defense has to do this week is get to Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger
  • We get a twitter message from our buddy Jason from Bleeding Green Nation asking about any kind of interstate rivalry that may exist with the Steelers
  • We have a big tailgate planned this week, BIG!
