Alan E. Shugarman, M.S., RD and Candy Herrick

Alan E. Shugarman, M.S., RD is a consultant, product developer and writer for the nutrition and dietary supplement industry through Discovery Nutrition, Inc. He has been involved in the nutrition, dietary supplement, health and fitness industry for the past 15 years. He has a Bachelors of Science in Chemistry and Biology with a minor in Nutrition, and a Master of Science in Foods and Nutrition Science as well as being a Registered Dietitian. During his career he has developed over 50 new products for top companies in the supplement industry, completed research studies, and spoken professionally at numerous events and conferences.

Candy Herrick, formerly a Chicago native, has lived in south Florida for just over one year. She currently works for South Florida Adventures magazine, the region’s only magazine that is dedicated to the outdoor enthusiasts of south Florida. Candy has a passion for endurance sports and train to race competitively in half marathons and adventure races.

Dr. Dexter Russell and Staci Wilson

Dr. Dexter Russell served in the Air Force and later graduated from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics and Nutrition. He graduated from the National College of Naprapathic Medicine located in Chicago, Illinois. As a principle of GenSpec Labs LLC, Dr. Russell’s primary objective is to empower others to take responsibility for their health and well-being. Because of this, he is committed to helping develop high value nutritional products that will aid in enhancing the health of persons within various ethnic groups. Dr. Russell currently lives in Naples, Florida where he oversees production of the GenSpec line of nutraceutical products.

Staci Wilson was a member of the Gold Medal winning U.S. Women’s National Team at the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. Previously, she helped lead UNC to the 1996 NCAA Division I title, was named a candidate for the Missouri Athletic Club 1995 Player of the Year award as a sophomore, 1995 Soccer News All-American and other honors. She was also named the MVP of the 1994 U.S. Youth Soccer Virginia State Cup. Staci currently works as a trainer at Perfect Competition.

Mark Tallon, Ph.D. and Melinda Mergen

Dr. Mark J. Tallon received his Ph.D. from Southampton University in Muscle Biochemistry. He has worked with some of the world’s leading biochemists including world-renowned creatine research Professor Roger Harris. Dr. Tallon has a broad interest in exercise physiology and nutrition, with special expertise in nutritional biochemistry and its applications in the enhancement of elite athletic performance. He also holds a first degree with honors in exercise physiology, a Masters degree in nutrition science and a Ph.D. in nutritional biochemistry.

Melinda Mergen is the President of SupplementCoach.com. She has an extensive background working the health and wellness industry. Her passion is to provide accurate, scientific information for consumers so that they can make wise and informed choices when it comes to dietary supplements.

Jacob Wilson, MSc., CSCS and Eddy Garcia

Jacob Wilson, MSc., CSCS graduated in the top 1 percent of CSU Eastbay with a B.S. (hons) in exercise nutrition and M.S. in Kinesiology, and is completing his Ph.D. in exercise physiology (concentration in exercise nutrition) at FSU. He is a professional member of the ISSN and president of Abcbodybuidling.com, where he and his colleagues have published over 300 papers on exercise science. Jacob has lectured in nearly every core collegiate exercise science course and is presently developing nutrition plans for each of St. Mary’s sports teams.

Eddy Garcia is a professionally trained dancer. She has been dancing since the age of 2, and is trained in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop. She has performed in Japan, Singapore, and at The Riviera, Caesars, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe, The Plaza, MGM Grand. When she retired as a dancer she became a successful personal trainer. Realizing that her clients’ biggest obstacles are the boredom and the lack of results they experience while training, she has been developing a class made specifically for women to lose weight and tone up via different dancing styles with her new start-up venture called ‘Strut.’

The Performance Nutrition Show 10-4-06

Jim Rockell is an NPC and IFBB pro judge, former competitor and owner of a Powerhouse Gym in Rochester, NY. Jim competed as a natural athlete in the late ’70s and early ’80s with the old AAU, then became involved in judging and eventually became the first NPC Physigue Chairman in the NY area. He received his NPC National Judge’s card in 1983 and went on to become an IFBB Pro Judge in 1985. He is now on the Board of Trustees of the NPC as a Vice President and General Secretary and Zone Chairman for the Northeast USA, and on the IFBB Pro Judges Committee and the Men’s Representative for the IFBB. Jim has judged several Mr. Olympia’s and Grand Prix tours.

Mike Davies in currently the owner of The Fitness Factory. With over 14 years of experience, Mike is one of the most recognized trainers in the world today in the sport of competitive fitness, figure and bodybuilding. With a clientele list that includes the reigning Ms. Fitness Olympia, Jen Hendershott, and reigning Ms. Fitness International Adela Garcia, it’s not a mistake that The Fitness Factory has become so successful.
Terry Goodlad is the owner of Bodysport.com and is a top photographer and writer for numerous magazines including Oxygen, FLEX, Muscle and Fitness, American Curves and the NPC News. He is an expert in women’s fitness and figure training and provides exclusive coverage of NPC and IFBB fitness and figure competitions for Oxygen magazine. Terry is a former amateur bodybuilder, record-holding powerlifter and has been a trainer for elite athletes in a wide variety of sports for over 25 years, including wife and IFBB Pro Figure competitor, Elaine Goodlad.

The Performance Nutrition Show 9-17-06

Mike Ryan has been involved in weight resistance training since he was 12. He has participated in football, ice hockey, lacrosse, baseball, basketball, boxing, surfing, mountain climbing, jui jitzu, cycling, swimming and golf. Mike has taught his successful training methods and techniques to many top athletes as well as top entertainment and business stars. His is also an Editor for Real SOLUTIONS magazine.

Shane Hamman began his career as a successful power lifter and went on to cross over to Olympic-style weightlifting. Hamman is now considered the strongest man in the United States. Among his accomplishments are: Olympian, finishing seventh in 2004 and 10th in 2000; 2002 Mermet Cup team member gold medalist; Senior National Championships gold medalist 1997–2001, 2003, 2004; American Open gold medalist 2001, 1998 and 1997.

Dan Solomon

Dan Solomon has emerged as one of the most visible members of the bodybuilding media. As host of Pro Bodybuilding Weekly, the radio voice of professional bodybuilding, Dan has showcased the biggest names in the industry live for a worldwide broadcast audience. Andrew Shao, Ph.D. is Vice President, Scientific and Regulatory Affairs, for CRN. Dr. Shao has extensive training in human nutrition science research and an in-depth knowledge of regulatory affairs and product development. He comes to CRN from General Nutrition Corporation (GNC) in Pittsburgh, Pa., where he was a senior scientist. Before that, Dr. Shao worked as technical services manager for Kemin Consumer Care, and earlier, as section manager for Kemin Foods (now known as Kemin Health) in Des Moines, Iowa. One of his many responsibilities in this position was ensuring all consumer-focused copy was in compliance with FDA and FTC regulations. Dr. Shao has authored several peer-reviewed papers and abstracts that were published in scientific journals including Toxicology Letters, the Journal of the American Nutraceutical Association and FASEB. He holds a Ph.D. in Nutritional Biochemistry and an M.S. in Human Nutrition Science from Tufts University in Boston. His B.A. in Biology is from Brandeis University in Waltham, Massachusetts.
