Darryn Willoughby, Ph.D., FISSN holds an M.Ed. degree in Exercise Science and a Ph.D. in Neuromuscular Physiology and Biochemistry with a sub-emphasis in Nutritional Biochemistry. Dr. Willoughby is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and International Society of Sport Nutrition (ISSN). He is also the current President of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and a certified exercise and sport nutritionist from the ISSN. He is well published in scientific research journals such as the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, Journal of Sport Science and Medicine, and the International Journal of Sports Medicine. Abbie Smith, M.S. is a doctoral student at the University of Oklahoma. She is a columnist for the trade publication, Sports Nutrition Insider. Her column, “Dear Abbie: The Sports Nutrition Siren” is a combination of witty prose coupled with real-world scientific advice. She has published several scientific manuscripts including the “Effects of beta-alanine supplementation and high-intensity interval training on endurance performance and body composition in men; a double-blind trial,” in the Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition.
