So I went 2-2 in the NFL Divisional Playoffs. Have my picks become the kiss of death for home teams?! Oh boy!
Alright, below are my thoughts on each game:
New England 45, Denver 10: Got this one right!
Tebowmania finally ran into the brickwall called the New England Patriots. 35 Patriots points in the first half of the game, Tom Brady once again shows how versatile that Patriots offense is. Fun fact, Ochocinco played one down…ONE DOWN in that game!
Baltimore 20, Houston 13: Grrrrr!
Houston was my pick back in the pre-season to make it all the way this season. And when Matt Schaub went down, then Leinart…I was sure they were done. Says a lot that they made it as far as they did with their 3rd string QB JT Yates!
And the Texans defense was attacking the ball as much as the Ravens D! In the end, Flacco and Boldin were a 1-2 punch that the Texans couldn’t handle.
NY Giants 37, Green Bay 20: You can’t go into Lambeu Field and beat…oh waitaminute…

The Packers offense can’t be stopped, they’re unbeatable, they’re high powered, they….only put up 20 points in this game against a NY Giants team that is hitting on all cylinders at the right time!
The Giants are a dangerous team right now, look out!
San Francisco 36, New Orleans 32: MAN I was so close!
Forget about Tebowmania…Smithmania has arrived! Shut down defense versus a high power offense led by the single season passing yards leader Drew Brees? No way in heck I think the 49ers offense keeps pace in a shootout with the Saints. I mean really, Alex Smith keeping up with Drew Brees?
But the 49ers offense did just that. Not only keeping pace, but going DEEP against the Saints defense multiple times. The Candlestick crowd was rocking, and the 49ers defense kept the pressure on Drew Brees. Heck of a game, easily a top playoff game in NFL history.
Ok, now on to my picks for the NFL Conference Championships AND Super Bowl!!
Baltimore at New England
Another case of a high powered offense versus a shut down defense. The Ravens head to the Patriots home field to try and shut down a versatile new England offense. Baltimore, and specifically QB Joe Flacco, is going to need to put this team on his back and throw for some big yards to win this game. Unfortunately, I don’t think that happens IN New England.
Ray’s pick: New England Patriots
NY Giants at San Francisco
The power of the 49ers was their defense, now we know their offense can put some impressive points on the board (David Akers who?).
The Giants did what nobody thought they could do, win in the post season at Green Bay. Now the Giants head to a loud Candlestick and a 49ers team that is also on fire. This is a tough one to pick, but here we go…
Ray’s pick: San Francisco 49ers
Ray’s Super Bowl:
New England Patriots vs San Francisco 49ers
Shutdown defense against a versatile offense with a Super Bowl veteran QB. If there is one thing I’ve learned as an Oakland Raiders fan…top defense shuts down a top offense EVERY time (hello Super Bowl XXXVII Buccaneers vs Raiders).
Ray’s pick and Super Bowl XLVI Champion: San Francisco 49ers
